103 5
Does your kitchen look out of date or just worn? Maybe its just time for a change.
Many people go way overboard when giving their kitchen a new look.
You don't have to do a complete kitchen renovation to give your kitchen a fresh look.
Take a look at your kitchen cabinets.
One of the most dramatic improvements you can make in your kitchen is by refacing your kitchen cabinets.
If you are happy with your kitchen cabinet setup and design, simply refinishing them is an inexpensive alternative to replacing them.
What does it take to reface kitchen cabinets? The process takes a little time but is fairly easy to do.
Let's take a look at the process.
First remove the doors and drawer faces.
This gives you room and access to properly finish the doors and frame if required.
If you are using new hinges, be sure to fill in the old holes left by the old hinges.
The new hinges will most likely not line up in the same holes as the old hinges.
Strip and sand everything that will be refinished.
Be sure to keep stepping down in sandpaper grade until you reach a very fine sandpaper.
This will create a very smooth finish to each piece.
Prep, stain, and protect with the color and type of your choice.
There are products that combine the stain and clear coating together in one step and looks quite nice.
Be sure to go over each piece with very fine sandpaper or steel wool between coats to remove any bumps.
Once dry, reattach doors and drawer faces to the cabinet.
It is an easy process when you break it down to small steps and work at your own pace.
This was just a brief overview of the process.
