    • 1). Call your own insurance company before contacting a vehicle rental agency. Get all of the details about your policy's rental car coverage. Nationwide rental agencies such as Enterprise and U-Haul can charge $35 or more per day for additional insurance coverage on a rental vehicle. If your own insurance covers a rental don't allow yourself to be talked into expensive and unnecessary additional insurance coverage.

    • 2). Use websites like yellowpages.com or your own phone book to find local vehicle rental agencies. Smaller local agencies are sometimes more affordable than the well known national agencies.

    • 3). Contact local agencies by phone to get a few comparison estimates on a pickup truck rental that meets your needs and time frame. Visit a few national rental agencies websites like Enterprise.com and U-Haul.com to get estimates on pick up truck rentals online. To get estimates you will fill out an online form on each site with information about the class of vehicle you want to rent, pick up times and locations, as well as drop off information. After giving you cost estimates you will have the option of completing your pickup truck rental reservation online. To complete an online or phone rental reservation you will be required to enter or give your credit or debit card information.

    • 4). Fill out the additional paperwork at the time of pick up. When you arrive to complete your truck rental you will be asked to provide your driver's license and insurance information if you will not be accepting the rental agencies coverage. The fuel level and mileage information will be written down before you take the vehicle off the lot and noted again when you return to calculate costs when fuel and mileage charges are separate. Take note of fuel level and mileage before you leave and check over the paperwork you are given to ensure the amounts written down are correct.

    • 5). Use your pickup truck rental as needed and return it to the drop off location as specified in your rental agreement papers.
