School Furniture - Seating Arrangements Can Make All The Difference

School furniture should not be limited to being just a set of meaningless plastic, metal or wood. How the furniture is arranged in the classroom speaks a lot about what you believe in terms of learning, interaction and development to the students and teachers as well as parents and visitors who may come to the school. There are different ways of arranging desks and chairs in the classroom keeping in mind the learning goals and student discipline issues.

Classic Rows

Classic because this traditional row method is what most of us would have seen as we studied our way up through school to college and beyond. Here the students sit in vertical or horizontal rows facing the teacher and the whiteboard, ideal for teacher centric lessons. One reason for this seating being so common is that teachers can easily identify students who are chatting or misbehaving in the class. But this seating may not suit for project work or group work as it is difficult for students to huddle and work in a group.

Cooperative Clusters

This type of school furniture seating is ideal for elementary school children. Here the children are divided into groups of 4 or 5 (depending on the number of students) with a circular desk and seating arrangement and placed strategically in the classroom so the teacher can move from one group to the other. With this method of teaching children learn to work together. However some students may tend to get distracted easily.

U-Shape or Horseshoe shape

In this seating desks are arranged in an angular U shape or wide horseshoe shape. Ideal for children above junior level school this seating facilitates group discussions. The students face the teacher and whiteboard as well as other students in the class. However this seating may not be feasible for a class that has too many students.

Full Circle

Definitely not for elementary school students, this seating arrangement is mostly used for temporary classes, workshops, meetings and to conduct some sort of experiments. Here students get to share their work, offer feedback and also have a question and answer session.

Irrespective of how the school furniture Delhi is arranged leave space for the students and teachers to move. Teachers tend to be more effective in their teaching when they are moving around the classroom. This also helps maintain discipline in the classroom.
