Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is a 15,000-acre U.S.National Park in northern Indiana that incorporates 25 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Indiana Dunes is home to sandy beaches, Karner Blue butterflies, as well as fun activities like Maple Sugar Time, where guests can join rangers to learn about the process of harvesting maple syrup. Stop in at the Visitor Center to pick up a map or trail guide, watch the orientation video or participate in some educational hands-on activities. Listen to the singing sand dunes. If your Indiana Dunes experience leaves you longing for a more rustic overnight retreat than the standard hotel, rent one of the nearby cabins to prolong your nature inspired visit. - Michigan City Campground, located just nine miles from the dunes, offers cabins equipped with microwaves, refrigerators, picnic tables, fire rings, covered porches and air conditioning. Cabins with full bathrooms are also available. The cabins are furnished with beds and seating, but you are responsible for supplying all bed and bath linens, cookware, plates, silverware and blankets. The property provides several additional amenities such as free Wi Fi, restrooms, showers, a heated pool and multiple sports venues. Stop in the convenience store to pick up any essentials you may have forgotten, or spend some time in the game room. Aside from the dunes, nearby attractions include the Washington Park Zoo and the Michigan City Old Lighthouse Museum. Nearby restaurants include Albano's Pizza and Rally's Hamburgers.

Sleeping spaces include private bedrooms and spacious lofts. Resort amenities include two stocked lakes, two heated pools, a lodge, an outdoor pavilion, sports venues and hiking trails. Most items, such as blankets and kitchen supplies, are provided by the resort. As a guest, you are responsible for bringing your own sheets, pillow cases and bath, beach and kitchen towels, as well as any toiletries you may need. The resort hosts several on-site activities like Bingo and even pie-eating contests. While the dunes are just a short drive from the resort, there are also several other attractions nearby, such as local parks, restaurants, and a large flea market known as the Gibraltar Trade Center.

While linens are provided for the queen and two twin beds, you must bring sheets for the bunk beds. The cabin does not have running water, a sink or a restroom, though these facilities are within just a short walk. Set on Clear Lake with 400 feet of sandy beach, the property features hayrides, crafts, kayak races, sporting competitions, dances, or if you prefer, the peace and quiet of this wooded area. Local attractions include The Wonderland Theatre, several antique shops and the Tabor hill and Round Barn wineries.
