Peter Adamson Architects PTY LTD - The Abilities And Skills Of Architects And Drafting Persons In Ca

Members of the Peter Adamson Architects PTY LTD Company know that it takes an Architect at least seven years to eventually qualify as an architect. It takes a drafting person only one to two years to qualify as a draftsman or a draftswoman. Drafting persons are definitely a significant and essential part of the building industry. However, currently it has been found that drafting people have been taking on or have been assigned work where they have had no specific training in. Proof of this inadequacy is shown in the designs of the homes that they have created. It is estimated that architects design only three percent of all homes in Australia. This leaves ninety seven percent of homes and residential buildings being designed by drafting people who are not qualified or who have not been specifically trained to conduct those skilled jobs. This results in homes and houses in Australia being badly designed including no concern for the environment, like avoiding overshadowing or to energy efficiency and aesthetics.

Obviously there are several drafting persons who have inherent design ability and produce good work but these drafting people are in the minority. As a result of the seven years of training that Architects have to endure, they do not only learn about how to create technical drawings but are also educated in the art of producing effective practical realistic structural design. So what constitutes good design? Aspects that an Architect has to take into consideration when producing a good design for a building include construction systems, engineering, planning regulations, energy efficiency, material science, design philosophy, history and a lot more. A drafting person only learns about technical drawing and a little about construction. The reason why many new home builders and office building owners have chosen drafting people to conduct their associated design work is because Architects are far more expensive to hire than drafting people are.

However, people need to realise that you need to pay more for quality and rightly so. Architects will spend a lot more time designing a new home compared to the time spent by a drafting person. This is because an Architect knows so much more about what constitutes a good and effective design compared to the knowledge that a drafting person has about design and all that is associated with it being practical and effective in every way possible. Therefore the Architects cost more than drafting people as they know and do more. Drafting persons construction drawings will usually comprise of only three to five sheets of work in total compared to the usual fifteen to twenty sheets created by an Architect for the same design job. The volume and level of detail is much higher in an Architects work compared to that delivered by a drafting person.
