Newborn Baby Checklist
Nappies
From the day your baby arrives, you'll be changing nappies like it's your regular day job. A new baby typically goes through approximately 10 nappies per day. Ensure that you never run out of this vital commodity by purchasing them in packs of 100. Also, you need to choose a size nappy that will fit your baby comfortably. It's usually safe to go for nappy sizes that range between 4 -12 lbs. therefore, whether you have a small or large baby this size will fit them comfortably for a while.
Clothes
You can never tell what size your baby will be when he or she arrives, but you certainly do not want to end up with lots of clothes that you'll probably never use. Babies grow quite fast and tend to outgrow the newborn and 0-3 months clothes in a matter of weeks. Therefore, aim to buy more clothes in the 3 -6 months age group. Even if your baby is on the smaller side he or she will eventually grow into them.
Car Seat
UK law states that all children from birth to the age of 12 should travel in a properly fitted car seat. Hence, you will need to select a Group car seat for your little one, as this is the most ideal to transport your baby home from the hospital. This type of car seat is small, comfortable and provides ultimate protection for baby.
Cot
Your new baby will need a nice, comfortable place to sleep, so getting a cot is a good idea. Cots are available in different shapes and designs. To get the best value for money, choose a cot that has features such as a drop side, protective teething rails, storage drawer, wheels, as well as different heights for the mattress.
Push chair
It will be hard carrying your baby around in your arms everywhere you go especially while shopping. Therefore, getting a push chair is quite convenient. There's a wide variety of push chairs available. Therefore, you need to select the one that caters most to your needs. However, aim to get a pushchair that is suitable from birth upwards to about 18 months.
Changing bag
You certainly do not want to be rummaging through your handbag to find wipes or nappies. Hence, you will be better off getting a bag specifically for your baby's items. If you don't mind sharing a bag with your baby, there are bags available that offer separate spaces for you and baby, so you'll never have to worry about mixing up stuff.
Changing mat
Public areas can be quite unsanitary and you wouldn't want to change your baby on any dirty surface; therefore, a changing mat is essential when you are out and about with your little one. There are disposable changing mats available, as well as mats that are small enough to be accommodated in your changing bag.
Ensure that you have these items before your little one arrives to reduce stress that accompanies having a newborn baby in the home. You'll have few less things to worry about if you have these items lined up.
