Our Bodies Are Programmed For Survival
Before we can setup a diet to control or lose weight, we need first to understand what got us into this mess.
There are certainly many factors that go into it...
peer pressure, bad habits and our genes.
That's right, blame some of your weight gain issues on your parents and grandparents, not directly of course, but as a matter of their body makeup.
Are genes watch our every move; they want to eliminate anything that does not fit the objective of a low metabolism and concentration of high-calorie foods.
This is why we find ourselves with an almost irresistible plight to eat high-calorie foods...
the genes also control our behavior.
Second of the processes is avoiding injury and pain.
Outside of those looking for pain in the form of tattoos, etc.
, we have a built-in mechanism that warns us and desires to avoid pain.
In many circumstances, pain usually equates to injury.
This is done unconsciously as, our genes have one goal remember...
survival.
The third most important of the simple processes is finding pleasure.
Regardless of what we have been taught, our systems are programmed to find pleasure.
Keep in mind that any behavior that stimulates pleasure is going to take president over all other functions.
Now let us relate this to our eating habits.
Probably the most widely recognized pleasure-stimulating product is sugar.
What is most interesting about this is that sugar, and other such pleasure-driven substances, is exactly what our genes want! Now our bodies are not asking for the sugar of chocolate, etc.
, they are programmed by eons of evolution and as primates, we are designed to eat fruit others cannot reach.
This is a genetic and anatomic design that foreshadows everything we do.
Take some comfort in knowing that your body is almost fighting you and evolution to survive.
