Sorting Fishing Tackle
Sorting and storing fishing tackle can be a problem. I started out with a small tackle box that had one shelf and some storage under it. I now have a 19 foot, 10 inch tackle box - my bass boat. And it won't hold everything.
For years I just dumped everything into bags and put them in the boat storage boxes. It got to the point I could never find what I wanted and kept buying new stuff when I already had it in the boat.
Several years ago I started storing soft plastic baits in heavy plastic bags and labeling them.
After getting a second bass boat I decided it was time to get organized. I am trying so sort everything out now. I emptied both boats onto a work bench we built - 25 feet long and 4 feet wide - and it is covered!
I first sorted plastics, crankbaits and spinnerbaits into seperate sections. Now I am putting the plugs I use most into one of those Cabellas soft boxes with plastic boxes inside. I have one box for Shadraps and flat cranks, one for jigs and chunks, one for rattletraps and small cranks and one for spoons, tail spinners and in line spinners. I have another box for spinnerbaits, one for leads, beads, hooks and swivels. One box is for soft plastics, about 6 of the ones I use most.
I will continue to keep extra plastics in the bags they came in, stored in numbered and marked big plastic bags. I have a problem tho. What do I do with all the extra crankbaits, spares and ones that will not go in the box?
I am thinking about putting them in plastic food containers - I have dozens of them the same size, and putting them in sacks labled. I can put new plugs still in the boxes in the same bags.
This seems to be a good start. I worry that the food storage containers are air tight and may cause hooks to rust - I will have to watch that close. I do feel more organized now and my list of what is in each bag helps.
Now,if I can just stick with this plan!
