    • 1). File an amendment to the articles of incorporation to add another owner. Amendment forms are usually found on secretary of state websites or by contacting the office by phone, email or regular post. Amending the articles of incorporation is less time-consuming than drafting a new operating agreement. An operating agreement is the section within the articles of incorporation that identifies owners, rights and percentage of ownership and job responsibilities.

    • 2). Identify new owners and their positions within the LLC in the amendment. Include additional information such as how much new owners have invested in the business or percentage of ownership.

    • 3). Hold a meeting with existing owners. Take a vote to determine if an amendment to the articles of incorporation is supported by all owners. In some states, you must obtain the signatures of other owners listed on the operating agreement or you must indicate on the amendment form that all owners are in agreement.
