What Is the Difference Between a 1995 Chevy Caprice Classic and a 1995 Chevy Impala?

Chevrolet built the 1995 Chevy Caprice Classic and the 1995 Chevy Impala on the same platform. It positioned the Impala as the high-performance version of the Caprice Classic. While both cars shared the same overall body style and dimensions, their interiors and exteriors had several differences. Production of the Chevy Caprice Classic and Chevy Impala ended after the 1996 model year, though the Impala was revived in 2000 in a different body style. - The Caprice Classic had a 4.3-liter V8 engine with a 94.9 mm bore, 76.1 mm stroke and 9.8 compression ratio. It generated 200 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 235 lb-ft of torque at 2,400 rpm. The Impala's V8 engine was larger, displacing 5.7 liters with a 101.6 mm bore, 88.4 mm stroke and 10.0 compression ratio. It produced 260 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 330 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm.
- The Caprice Classic had two front disc brakes and two rear drum brakes, while the Impala had four disc brakes. The Impala had a rear limited slip differential and a rear stabilizer bar, both of which the Caprice Classic lacked.
- Both cars had the same overall length, width and wheelbase, but the Caprice Classic was taller by about one inch and heavier by 24 lbs.
- The Caprice Classic could seat six, one more than the Impala. The latter offered front and rear power windows and reading lights as standard equipment. Cloth upholstery was standard on the Caprice Classic, while the Impala came equipped with leather seats.
