Celebrate China Culture at this Exciting Festival
China's rich and colorful culture comes to Indianapolis every year at the Chinese Festival. The event is held in September, during the month of the Chinese Moon Festival. The Moon festival is the second largest Chinese festival after the Chinese New Year and is a celebration of harvest with family and friends. This year, the festival will take place on Saturday, September 27 from noon - 6 p.m. at the American Legion Mall.
During the Chinese Festival, the park comes alive with the Chinese culture. Colorful red lanterns hang from each tent, dragons lurk around every corner and the tantalizing smell of Chinese cuisine fills the air. People of every culture attend the festival to take in the experience and learn more about the country of China and its people.
Events and Activities
There's a lot going on at the Chinese festival. While the schedules change every year, visitors can expect to experience the lion and dragon dances, art exhibits, tai chi, musical and dance performances, crafts, and sports such as ping pong, badminton, Chinese yo-yo and Chinese jump rope.
For the Kids
In addition to the regular entertainment, kids can stay busy at various booth designed for them. Play a large game of Chinese checkers or learn about traditional Chinese toys and play a bean bag toss game. Craft booths give kids a chance to color their own masks. There's also face painting available.
Vendors
There are various food vendors, specializing in Chinese food throughout the festival.
In addition, visitors can purchase traditional Chinese clothing, accessories and souvenirs.
Event Information
The Chinese Festival is free and open to the public. The event is held every September at Military Park at the American Legion Mall.
