Information About USAA
- USAA's origins date back to 1922, when 25 U.S. Army officers banded together in San Antonio, Texas, to insure each other's vehicles. The men had been denied auto policies by other insurers because they were considered high risks.
- Active military members and veterans, former USAA members, widows and ex-spouses of USAA members, and the children of current and former USAA members may access all products and services. Members' spouses can use all services except for some insurance policies, and other individuals can access a handful of financial products and services.
- Financial products offered include credit cards, savings and checking accounts, tax-advantaged college savings accounts, certificates of deposit (CD's), Individual Retirement Arrangements (IRA's), brokerage accounts, auto and personal loans, and mutual funds.
- USAA offers insurance policies including home, auto, travel, business, watercraft, life insurance and annuities.
- USAA.com offers advice on a variety of financial issues. Planning tools include a debt analyzer, as well as several calculators and planners. Members receive unlimited free financial guidance from USAA's advisors, either by phone or e-mail.
- USAA was granted awards by MSN Money, Forrester Research and Business Week for its customer service and advocacy efforts. Other awards have been granted for customer loyalty, being an outstanding employer, performance, and assets by numerous researchers, investor services and financial industry groups.
