How to Troubleshoot a Weed Eater Line Feed
- 1). Shut off or unplug the trimmer. Grasp the bottom trimmer head and press in on the two side tabs to remove the trimmer head and access the line.
- 2). Pull additional line out of the trimmer head, if the nylon cord continually slips inside the trimmer. Grasp the end of the nylon cord and thread it through the side hole. Pull it out at least 4 inches and replace the trimmer head on the main device. Some Weed Eater models have two nylon lines that should both extend 4 inches out of the hole.
- 3). Install the correct sized nylon line if the current line has melted to the unit. Melting line only occurs when it it too large for the trimmer and cannot move. Unwind all of the current line from the trimmer head and rewind the head with a 0.080-inch diameter line. Only wrap the line in the direction of the arrows on the trimmer head.
- 4). Look at the line for visible kinks, tangles or overlapping sections, if the trimmer line fails to come out of the Weed Eater during use. If necessary, unwind all of the line and rewind it carefully onto the head, making sure not to tangle the line as you wrap it.
- 5). Check the line size to ensure it is not too small, if it runs out faster than normal. Smaller-diameter line breaks faster on most Weed Eater models. The proper diameter size is 0.080 inch. In addition, cutting around hard surfaces, such as concrete, will cause the line to wear down quicker.
