How to Set Priorities and Get Started
The reason you want to do this is to make sure things get done when they should.
You also want it prioritized so that the most important things get done first, this way if something comes up and blows the budget, the most important things were done first and have hopefully already been done.
So what is the best to come up with this prioritized list? Honestly there isn't exactly a better or worse way to do it.
you just have to sit down and do it, then probably redo it a couple times to make sure it is prioritized correctly.
Here is a basic list of what you can do to get started.
Normally I star doing it by hand and then enter it into the computer later, but you can do what ever you like best.
1.
Write the project at the top.
This is a good idea to stay focused and keep your eye on the prize.
2.
List what needs to get done in a prioritized fashion.
For the first round do your best but I guarantee you it won't be perfect, something will be out of order.
3.
Recheck you priorities.
I normally do this 3-4 times depending on the size of project, this way everything is in order.
4.
Assign estimated start and finish dates to each item.
This will not be perfect but you will want some rough estimates so that you can stay focused and get things done.
5.
Review your priorities one last time.
I like to review the priorities again after assigning start and finish dates because sometimes I realize something can't be started until something else is done, so it needs to get reordered.
I know these seem pretty basic, but it will help make everything go smoother and often quicker.
