Hemorrhoids are an inflammation and swelling of the anal veins in the rectum.
They are caused by a lot of factors like increased straining during bowel movement, commonly caused by constipation and diarrhea.
This condition is considered common to women who are experiencing premenstrual syndrome or having their menstruation.
Hypertension can be also one of the factors that cause hemorrhoids.
Aside from that, obesity is also another factor because of the increased pressure in the rectal veins.
As well as, poor posture and poor muscle tone.
They are usually associated with pregnancy because when one is pregnant, excessive straining and hypertension may occur.
Cigarette smoking, drinking alcohol and caffeine may also worsen this condition.
The most common symptom of this problem is blood during bowel movement or a lump outside the anus.
Blood usually appears on the toilet paper or in the toilet bowl.
Sometimes, blood covers the stool.
However, most symptoms will go away on their own after a few days.
Some people may not even have symptoms.
Advanced stages of this condition give a person more pain and discomfort like the internal ones that protrude or the external ones that are said to be thrombosed.
Rubbing, scratching and excessive cleaning of the affected area will also cause further irritation.
We should always remember to drink a lot of fluids and have a high fiber diet to avoid having this problem.
Aside from that, we also need to have a proper posture and reduce straining time during bowel movement.
