Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) offers many options that a user can set to customize the browser to meet his needs and preferences. IE7 has seven tabs full of customizable options. These tabs are accessed by selecting "Tools" and then "Internet Options." - The general tab contains key operations that you will set and return to periodically to clean out temporary files and history. Within this tab you can set the default home page that IE7 goes to when launched. Two key sections within this tab are "Temporary Internet files" and "History." You will need to visit these areas periodically to clean your system.
- As you surf the Internet, IE7 stores temporary files so that load time is quicker each time you visit a page that you previously visited. Over time these files accumulate and can cause you computer to run slow. Users should return to this section on a regular basis and clear out the temporary files. The settings tab allows the user to control how much disk space is allocated for temporary files.
- IE7 keeps track of each site that is visited. This is called the history. The history is automatically cleared out after a set number of days. This option can be increased or decreased to meet the users needs. Previous history can be removed by selecting the "Clear History" button.
- The security section offers options concerning the content that is permitted to be viewed by the user. By selecting the "Custom Level" button, IE7 gives you numerous security options. The "Default Level" button is a valuable button if you make changes in the custom level and you are not satisfied. The default level will restore the security settings to the original factory settings.
- The "Content" tab give the user options to block websites based on language, nudity, sex and violence.
- The "Advanced" tab contains many options that a user can enable or disable by checking the corresponding box. The user can "Restore Defaults" if selections in this area are not acceptable once the changes are made.
