Breast Implants Problems
- Capsular contracture is a breast implant problem that occurs when the body builds up scar tissue around breast implants, causing pain, hard breast and disfigurement.
- Ruptured implants cause fluid to leak into breast and surrounding tissue from sudden impact or undetectable cracks. Breast implants lose their shape, sag and wrinkle.
- Implants lead to breast sensitivity or nipple numbness because nerve pathways are disturbed during surgery. Sensation can return after a few days or months or can be permanent.
- Infections can develop within the first six weeks after getting breast implants; antibiotics clear infections within several months. Infections increase risks of capsular contracture.
- Hematomas, or pools of blood and fluids, build up in tissue around breast implants, causing pain, bruises and infections. Tubes used to drain fluids can damage implants.
- A woman may not get the desired result from her breast implants. The implants may be visible under the skin or look asymmetrical, requiring additional surgical procedures to correct.
