One of the most popular and interesting conversation pieces you can add to your home would easily be a bamboo fountain.
These fountains are not only eco-friendly, but stunning to look at as well.
Imagine the pride and joy you would feel when showing it off to friends and family members when they are visiting your home.
Even better than that, imagine telling them that you built it yourself! While many people are intimidated about do it yourself projects, making a bamboo fountain is really quite the simple project and can be down in under a few hours.
So are you ready to take the challenge? The first thing you will need are your supplies, You don't have to go deep into the jungle to find these supplies, however.
Most of them can easily be found at any of your local hardware stores.
Again, this isn't going to be difficult.
The first thing you will need is a pump.
While I could write a whole article about fountain pumps, for simplicities sake, I suggest you discuss which kind is most suitable for your fountain with a trained staff member at the hardware store.
However, you will want to look for one with a low gallons per hour rating, so it is more energy efficient.
You will also need to buy the flow tubing, which is generally going to be an inexpensive purchase.
Be sure to inspect the tubing for any small holes or crimps that could interrupt the flow of water.
Also be sure to buy ample amounts so you don't leave yourself short when assembling the fountain.
Now comes the fun part! Choosing your bamboo.
In general you will want to get bamboo that is no longer than 3-4 feet long and about 2inches in diameter.
Also you will need some trimming tools, a good pair of shears should do nicely.
Finally pick out a nice sized waterproof planting pot, some decorative gravel, and a tube of waterproof silicone.
To assemble your fountain, cut a small hole to run the pump cord through.
Then seal the hole with the silicone.
Be sure the silicone has dried and make sure the silicone has created a waterproof seal.
While it is drying, you will want to trim your bamboo to an ample length.
Next, run your tubing through one of the hollow bamboo stalks and place it directly in the middle of the pot.
Be sure to secure the bamboo with the silicone at the bottom.
Now scatter the gravel around the bottom of the pot to create a nice base and arrange the rest of your bamboo.
Be sure to conceal the pump with the gravel and bamboo.
Now simply connect the tubing to the pump and fill the pot with water.
Then adjust the pump accordingly.
That's all there is to it.
Now you have created a beautiful bamboo fountain and a stunning conversation piece in under a couple of hours!
