How to Set Up a Film Projector
- 1). Set up the projection screen between 10 and 12 feet of where the film projector will sit. If you do not have a projection screen, a blank wall will usually suffice. If the projector is too close to the screen, the image will be too small to enjoy; if the image is too big, it will be difficult to bring into focus.
- 2). Position the film projector on the card table (or surface of similar height), with the lens facing the projection screen, and plug it in to the nearest outlet.
- 3). Unfold the arms that hold the film reel (at the back of the projector) and the take-up reel (at the front of the projector), and click the arms into place. Attach the empty take-up reel onto the appropriate arm. Typically, it will only fit onto the arm in one direction.
- 4). Test that the basic operations of the projector are working properly. Use the control switch to run the projector forward and in reverse. Listen for a smooth whirring of the inner wheels; do not run film through the projector if the machine makes a sound other than that.
- 5). Turn on the bulb to test it. If it is in proper working order, center the light on the film projector. Use the adjustable feet on the bottom of the projector to raise it up and down or to balance the image. A stack of magazines or books will do the trick if the feet are broken or missing.
- 6). Thread the film from the film reel through the projector, through the lens clasp, and onto the take-up reel (refer to your projector user's manual for the specific instructions).
