The 1979 Ford Bronco came factory equipped with an inline six-cylinder engine. The standard engine was a 5.8-liter V-8 although customers could upgrade to a more powerful, 6.6-liter V-8. All 1979 Broncos feature front and rear shocks and a front stabilizer bar, with a rear stabilizer bar as an option. The standard fuel tank holds 25 gallons, though an upgrade offered a 32-gallon fuel tank. The standard transmission was a manual four-speed; a three-speed automatic was offered as an option. New features in 1979 included an air pump, vapor canister and catalytic converter. The thick, ladder type frame of the 1979 Ford Bronco is designed for off-road driving. Tri-color tape strips are characteristic of the Bronco's appearance, and factory color combinations included orange, tan and crème or blue, white and green. Chromatic striping was also available. Black bumpers came standard on this model, and low-mounted Western mirrors added to the vehicle's country-themed style. Factory seat cover colors included red, black, blue, jade or sand. The interior has cut-pile carpeting and wood-tone accents on the door panels. Rear flip and fold benches provide space for passengers or for storage. The 1979 Bronco has front tow hooks and an inside locking hood release. Additional features include a locking gas cap, spare tire lock and locking glove box. For safety on or off the road, bright-edged door guards and front bumper guards protect the frame from damage. The frame has a mono beam suspension and forged steel radius rods, which come in handy for off-road adventures.
