Finding the Fun in Maine

When Ralph announced that we were heading to Maine this next week, first thing that went through my head was "couldn't you have found a place more interesting for this meeting?"

I was totally prepared to be bored out of my skin. But you know what?

This is Shelby you're dealing with. Finding the fun in any location is what I do, and when it came to finding the fun things to do in Maine, it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be!

Yep, it's me again, Shelby, and I'm writing to you from Vacation-land to let you know that the Easternmost state in the continental US has enough Fun Stuff to do that I'm devoting this whole weeks writing to it.

Seriously, I've not only found enough to keep me busy this whole week, I'm seriously considering coming back on my own sometime.

This is definitely a state worth exploring!

There is a reason that so many people come to Maine from all over the country for their summer vacations. From Kennebunkport (just over the line from New Hampshire) to Saint David (up on the Canadian border) and from Perry on the east coast to Wilson's Mills on the New Hampshire border.

You'll find enough fun things to do to keep you coming back here year after year.

For you see, this isn't just a place to get away from it all; it's a state where you find an incredibly rich mix of outdoor activities, traditional values, gorgeous scenery and enough modern amenities to ensure that you won't feel as if you've been cut off from society.

Deciding which part of Maine to visit will depend entirely on what it is you feel like doing.

Do you want to gaze out on spectacular ocean views and wander through beautiful parks and boutiques?

If so, head up to Boothbay Harbor or Camden. Feel like trying your hand at camping or mountain climbing?

Maybe you have a hankering to go looking for moose, bear or other wildlife. If so, Baxter State Park may be exactly what you are looking for.

Are you more of a city person?

You can catch a Broadway musical at the Maine State Music Theater in Brunswick, and Portland has enough night clubs, five star restaurants and music venues to satisfy even the most demanding person.

And if shopping is your bag, South Portland has enough shopping opportunities to keep you busy for days.

Maybe you're traveling with kids.

If so, don't miss out on the Children's museum in Portland, York's Wild Kingdom or Old Orchard Beach which is a stretch of coastline entirely devoted to amusement parks, water parks and other kid friendly activities.

I can't begin to tell you how much fun I've had just exploring this state.

With so many awesome activities to choose from it's difficult to narrow it down to even four favorite locations, but I'll definitely give it a try!

So bear with me as I explore this fabulous state and take you with me. Are you up to it?

Bye for now!

Love, Shelby
