Why Can't I Upload Videos to YouTube and It Says "Login Failed"?

    Google Account Link

    • A common problem with uploading videos to YouTube arises from attempting to log into an old YouTube account unlinked to a Google Account. Verify that you’re logging in with the correct Google Account with the right password. YouTube accounts need to be merged with a Google Account for all YouTube accounts made prior to 2009. If your account is an older account, link it to your Google account by signing in to YouTube with your YouTube account while signed in to Google Accounts. Your account will be automatically linked to that Google account. If you are linked to the wrong account, change it by clicking on “Change Google Accounts” in “Manage Account” under Account Settings.

    Web Browsers

    • While most browsers work with YouTube, Google recommends people use either Firefox or Google Chrome when uploading to YouTube, and further recommends that Silverlight be installed by those using Internet Explorer. All three of these browsers can upload up to 20 gigabytes and restart failed uploads. If you are using either Firefox or Google Chrome, a private browsing window helps because extensions are temporarily disabled. Some browser extensions, such as AdBlock Plus for either Firefox or Google Chrome, can conflict with video uploads.

    Supported File Type

    • If you’re still having problems with uploading videos, make sure you’re uploading a supported file format. Some common formats that aren’t supported by YouTube are MP3, WAV, JPG and PNG. Audio and image formats need to be converted to a slide show before trying to upload to YouTube. WLMP and MSWMM files need to be converted to WMV format before uploading.

    Network Issues

    • Finally, issues with your network could be interfering with uploading to YouTube. Some Internet service providers will limit bandwidth, especially during peak usage times. Upload your video early or late in the day. Power-cycling both your cable or DSL modem and router can alleviate some network problems. Unplug the modem and router, and wait five seconds, then plug them back in.
