Properly Build A 72 Hour Kit
First you will need something to contain all of your items. I personally like the backpack idea. It's easy to deploy if you need it on the go. However a duffle bag, tupperware container, or any other container can work. There are three items that are absolutely necessary in any survival situation: FOOD, WATER, SHELTER. These are a must. Here are some recommendations for these items
Food: 3800 calorie ration bars, dehydrated meals (require stove), canned foods
Water: Boxed, Pouch, Refill old bottles
Shelter: Tube tent, mylar blanket (space blanket), mylar sleeping bag
Other items you may want in your kit:
Matches(waterproof)
Stove ( there are some great lightweight stoves out there that range from 10 dollars to 100 dollars. Remember to store extra fuel if you choose a stove that requires.
Candles ( there are some great thirty hour candles out there, or just your basic tea candles work great too)
Flashlight (these can be found for cheap and for 1 dollar why not buy 10?)
Cups (Check out the Perfect Bottle)
First Aid Kit (don't go cheap here)
Knife (A good quality knife is priceless in an emergency situation)
Multi Tool (again, same as the knife. Quality is good)
Extra Cash (You just never know)
Identification
Hand Warmers
Remember that your 72 hour kit is not something that should just be kept in your home. It should be carried at all times. Think of it as a go-bag. You may choose to build several. One for your car, house, work, etc. I cannot express the importance of this. We never know when disaster may strike, but what we can know is that we have done all we can to PREPARE. Thanks for reading!
I have found some great kits out there online also if the thought of putting one together is overwhelming. Check out www.emergencysupplyonline.com they have a great assortment and stock of all items needed in an emergency survival situation
