How to Wire Pickup Trailer Plug Lights
- 1). Crawl underneath the vehicle and locate the wiring harness on the cross member near the spare tire well, on the side of the frame facing the real. Depress the clip on the harness to separate the two halves.
- 2). Clip the connector from the vehicle-specific trailer harness into one half of the factory harness using your hands. Repeat the process with the other side of the factory harness and the other side of the trailer harness. This will create a T that sends the appropriate wires to the plug next to the hitch.
- 3). Locate the white wire on the vehicle-specific trailer harness that has the ring terminal on the end. Place a self-tapping screw through the center of the ring terminal and use the drill to secure the ring terminal to the frame of the truck.
- 4). Clean the area behind the hitch using the automotive degreaser and paper towels. Peel back the double-sided tape on the converter box attached to the trailer harness and stick it to the area behind the hitch. Then run the plug on the wiring harness to the hitch receiver in the middle of the hitch. Secure any loose wiring to the chassis using the zip ties.
