Runescape, owned by Jagex is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role playing game, also known as a MMORPG, which was created by Paul & Andrew Gower in January 2001.
It's one of the very few MMORPG games which can be played though your browser.
Jagex have made this possible by programming Runescape in JAVA.
Runescape has around 10 million active players, with over 120 million accounts registered.
Runescape is within a world called Gielinor, which is then split into separate areas, villages, towns and cites across the world, there are a number of ways to get around in Geilinor, using magic to teleport is one of the most popular, along with "tele-tabs", which allow you to teleport to the populated areas, there are a few other methods of transport, one of them including gnomes.
One of the great aspects about Runescape, or most MMORPG, is the way you create your own game within Runescape, you play against yourself, set yourself skills and challenges, you can go and kill monsters, or battle other players, complete quests, or kill high level monsters, it's all down to you! Runescape is played though avatars, which you can fully customised with clothing, items, hats, boots, pretty much everything, so every player can look quite unique, you can unlock higher level skills in fishing, cooking, woodcutting, mining, smithing and many more! Along with all of these skills, quests and things to do, there are thousands of monsters, items along with plenty of mini games which will keep you entertained for hours, team based battles, known as clan wars, as well fight pits and many other great mini games!
