"Chimps Kitchen" – A Fundraising Event to Benefit "Save The Chimps"
The guests at Chimps Kitchen will enjoyed delicious vegetarian hors d'oeuvres and chimp-inspired cocktails, like banana daiquiris , which are being presented by Cruzan Banana Rum, and desserts will be created and donated by the local celebrity chefs.
The event will help raise thousands of much needed funds to assist for care and treatment of the rescued chimpanzees. Save the Chimps is the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in the world, which saves chimps from biomedical research, the pet trade, and entertainment. It is completely a nonprofit organization that works solely on the funding from the grants and donation it receives. The sanctuary was found in 1997 and is a 150-acre non-profit sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida. Presently, it is home to nearly 300 chimpanzees.
Laura Guttridge- A Well Known Animal Rights Activist
Laura Guttridge is a well known animal rights activist who believes that we every individual has moral responsibility towards animals and they should be treated with compassion, care and respect. She has participated in various protests, and has been arrested twice for her devotion to animals. For the first time at the Ocala National Forest for protesting against the annual youth deer hunt and second time for her involvement in an anti-fur protest at an event organized by San Diego Animal Advocates. For protesting against the inhumane treatment of animals, the model turned animal activist was awarded The Humanitarian of the Year Award in2007 from the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County.
In early 1990s, Laura Guttridge took an initiative to bring awareness to the mistreatment of animals, and established a grass roots animal rights group called "Marion County Voices for Animals" in Ocala Florida. The group was established to bring awareness to the unethical treatment of animals. The group played a crucial role in petitioning The Marion County Animal Shelter to stop using the outdated decompression chamber to kill unwanted animals, and switch to the more humane lethal injection.
Laura Guttridge is a well-educated individual who completed her bachelor's in philosophy from "The University of Central Florida" and her work as a student is published in the university library.
