Playing Next Generation MMORPGs

MMORPGs have evolved alot over the last five years. Although the infamous world of warcraft still holds a vast majority of subscribers, outside of WOW a lot of progress has been made, and a number of up and coming games may well dethrone the old king.

Next generation MMORPGs are being developed that include many never before seen features. These can include things like Iphone apps to check your character, ingame mail and chat with friends. This has already been done for Everquest II and has proven incredibly successful.

It is rumoured that the developers of another new MMORPG, Star Wars The Old Republic, have planned something similar. Players will hopefully be not only able to interact with their ingame character, check their mail and any other gear, but they might be able to interact with their characters companions.

These companions are another feature of many next gen games. They are computer run friends, who accompany you on your journeys. Such things are helpful in that they will do mundane tasks for you, and give players somebody to consult with in tricky situations.

Whatever significant developments occur with the next generation of MMORPG gaming, they will all be incredibly exciting and we cannot wait to see what will happen. These exciting developments have come on the back of many new other online games, such as the Call of Duty series which is really showing the world how much money there is in the gaming industry. All of the COD games have set various sales records and have generated more revenue than most small countries.

MMORPGs have quite a lot to learn from these First person shooters, as they are currently the most popular entertainment games on the market. Some important aspects that make them popular are the easy-start nature of the game and competitiveness shared by all.
First person shooter games generally do not put new players at much of a disadvantage compared to senior ones, because there are generally not levels. If there are levels, then they are simply unlocks which make little difference.
MMORPGs tend to have significant improvements as players level up, which is what makes it so impossible for newer members to compete. Maybe if new games, such as Star Wars The Old Republic can find some way to alleviate this, they will be able to attract a new crowd to MMO gaming, the same crowd that has made the call of duty series the huge success it is today.
