Lying

• Lying to a consular officer is undoubtedly one of the biggest mistakes you could make during the visa interview. Any misrepresentation of fact or stretching of the truth is usually detectable by the consular officer. Lying is not only an immediate signal declaring that you are not in the legal or moral rights for a K-1 visa, but also is an action that could bar you from future attempts to enter the United States.
  
  

Inability to Prove Relationship

• The interview is for one single purpose--to ensure you are applying for a K-1 visa on the grounds of a bona fide engagement with singular intent to marry and live with your partner, and not for the means of obtaining a green card. As such, the interview focuses on deconstructing your relationship with your American fiancé(e) to discover any inconsistencies. Take as much proof of your relationship with you as possible: photographs of you and your fiancé(e) together, letters, emails, birthday cards, plane ticket records and phone records. The more evidence, the better. The officer may ask questions how long you have known each other, where your beloved's parents live, if he has brothers or sister, where you met, what you like about him, where the wedding will be, where the engagement happened, what he does for a living and any other personal question the officer feels is pertinent to the situation. It is crucial that you know family, occupational and historical information about your fiancé(e).
  
  

Missing Information

• It is possible to be denied a K-1 based on the basis of missing information. Denial in this case can be remedied and repealed with the presentation of the requested items. A complete denial based on the interview itself, however, usually cannot be remedied or repealed if your relationship is viewed as a sham. Language

• The language barrier can be another possible problem during the interview. Consular officers will always begin the interview in English. If you cannot speak substantial English, the interview will be conducted in the language of your country. In all situations where language is not a common thread, information can be misinterpreted. Nerves

• Every visa applicant is expected to be nervous; the K-1 visa interview holds one of the most intimidating reputations of all U.S. visa interviews. However, if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear. Answer truthfully, do not hesitate and try to relax.
