Getting Your Pet Used to It It may take a couple of tries, but it is just like when you were training them to sit and stay.
Act like going out to the car is supposed to be a very exciting and happy adventure for them.
Once you have taken them out to the vehicle, reward them with praise and a treat.
Get in the car and act happy about it, and also make sure that they are comfortable.
You can either leave the doors open or close them, which ever you think will make your pet more comfortable.
It may take a couple of tries before they are comfortable with the doors shut, but this also depends on the personality of the dog.
Once they have gotten into the car with you, reward them with a treat.
Try repeating this numerous times a week until they are used to the idea of being inside of the vehicle.
Time to Take it a Step Further After your dog has mastered actually sitting inside of the car with the doors closed, it is time to crank the car up.
Note that he or she may act a bit uneasy in the beginning, but just try to talk to your pet in a way that soothes them.
Pet them and act like you are having a good time.
Your pet will catch on and want to do the same.
The next thing that you will want to do is to put the car into motion.
Do not take it anymore further than to the end of your driveway.
Remember that it might make them a little nervous, but just continue to praise them with treats during each outing.
Try this for about a week or two until they are convinced that the car is a place for fun.

It is when you will take the car out of the driveway and around the block a few times.
Do not be startled if your dog starts to whine or get upset.
Just remember to reassure them that it is okay.
They might want to look around some and bark, but just keep soothing them.
You might want to leave the radio off in the beginning so there isn't too much noise going on.
The less that there is to upset your dog in the beginning, the easier it will be for them to ease into the routine.
You need to know that your pet will eventually adapt to the situation.
Just stay persistent, because that is what will get you there.
Before too long, your dog will look forward to their everyday outings.
They will know that riding in the car is a fun time.
They will learn to love the family vehicle, and it will become a secondhand nature to them.
