Why Do Some Empty Nester Moms Resist Change?

Did you know that we are genetically programmed to resist change? We are programmed to maintain a state of equilibrium.
Our ancestors survived because of a condition called homeostasis, a condition that evolved naturally over time as a means to survive constantly changing conditions.
It developed over time to fulfill our need for stability and security.
The problem is even when great opportunities come along it still resists the change.
It doesn't distinguish between good and bad change.
The "empty nest" time of life is a time of change.
Empty nester moms are choosing to embrace the change to create businesses from home.
Yet when they get started they find there are hurdles to get over.
And this natural resistance to change tends to hold them back.
Some decide they don't want to move out of their comfort zone.
They decide the change is not worth the effort.
For example: Annabelle, an empty nester mom, who decided to learn how to build her business online found that before long she felt overwhelmed, behind, lost, and confused.
These feelings were actually part of her natural resistance to change.
How did all her great ideas dissolve into these frustrating feelings? Well, for Annabelle, it happened like this: First, she decided to work from home and build an online business.
Next she checked out online offers, network marketing companies and businesses in a box.
Then she chose the business and program she wanted to build.
After working at it for awhile she felt lost and confused because it was getting harder to understand and the results she wanted were not happening.
So she went back to searching online for the next secret to online success.
She bought another set of business videos and signed up for more newsletters and information.
Before long she had so many emails arriving every day from so many different sources she didn't know what to do with them all and wasted a lot of time going through them.
She was spinning her wheels going nowhere fast!! Finding it hard to adopt new habits, learn a new skill and cultivate a new attitude.
Back to homeostasis for a moment and the good news/bad news side of change.
Although Annabelle, like the rest of us, is genetically programmed to resist change and maintain a state of equilibrium.
The good news is that the homeostats can be reset and change embraced.
The bad news is the process of change always bring stress, pain and a certain amount of fear.
The antidote to fear is knowledge.
Don't get lazy about learning.
Be a life long learner.
Without change there is no growth.
Education is the key to becoming effective and being successful.
How can you possibly do it right if you don't know how? Here are five tips to guide you over the process of change: 1.
Open your email once a day.
Choose a time (morning, noon, or night) and stick to it.
2.
Delete or unsubscribe to emails that you know you will never get to.
Choose the ones you find valuable and get rid of the rest.
3.
Question yourself in everything you do: Is this activity helping me to get results? 4.
Make a plan and stick to your plan.
You can certainly make adjustments along the way, but take the time to organize, track and plan your business.
5.
Educate yourself, become an expert in one thing at a time.
Don't get sidetracked by all the "shiny new offers".
Think for your self, don't compare yourself to others and most of all enjoy the journey.
