Fixing a gas water heater hose can be convenient and simple that can be done easily by you, as gas water heaters connect directly to the gas supply line or pipe by a flexible or bendable heater hose. These hoses can be bend in many different for and directions to accommodate the purpose of its use or needs to where the water heater is located. You should repair and fix the break and tear of a heater hose line immediately and fast, as these flexible or bendable hoses are not that expensive, replacing it with a new one is the most appropriate action to take.

Before doing the repair of your gas water heater hose, you should check for your municipal rules or local building codes about gas servicing appliances, as many municipalities and cities will only allow a qualified gas service professional in doing repairs to the gas lines. In such a case, you should contact a gas service professional to prevent inconveniences.

Prior to doing any maintenance or repair, it is very important to turn off everything to avoid any inconvenience and accidents. And now start by cutting or closing the gas supply for the gas water heater hose that needs fixing as a lot of gas water heaters attached or connected to the gas supply line by a metal type flexible hose. The gas control valve, where you will cut the gas line, will be where the metal type flexible hose meets the gas supply line. You should turn the valve in the indicated direction that can be found stamped on the surface of the valve to cut the gas supply.

You will be able to unscrew the coupling connection from one end of the gas supply hose where it connects to the valve supply with the wrench. Unscrew the other end where it meets the water heater. You should apply gas tread compound to the gas pipe supply line threads and also to the inlet of the water heater line.

Now, connect the one end of the new supply line to the inlet on the hot water heater line. Tighten carefully the coupling with the wrench, and after that, connect the other end to the outlet of the pipe of the gas supply line. After finishing this task, turn the gas supply back on by again following the stamped indicated direction on the supply valve.

Always remember to utilize a gas leak detector or device to verify that there are no gas leakages around the new gas water heater hose, most especially in the area or vicinity of the couplings. Tighten all the couplings, if only needed.

As a strict reminder and caution, gas accumulates if the pilot light to the gas water heater has gone off. This is mostly dangerous especially in enclosed areas, as many responsible homeowners turn off the gas water heater before leaving their home for long periods to prevent a big booming surprise when they return home. Moreover, another water heater hazard is water leakages. An empty water heater that still on or runs can cause very serious damage.
