June Sacramento Events
Summer is here, and with it comes plenty of things to do in Sacramento. Enjoy an outdoor concert, food festival or just hang out poolside with friends and family as the Capital City kicks off Summer 2013.
Street Food Rodeo
Corner of 6th and G, Davis
Friday, June 7, 4pm-9pm
The 3rd annual Street Food Rodeo is happening in Davis on June 7. This event features food trucks, street performers, a beer garden and plenty of musical acts – and admission is free.
All food and other items purchased will be donated to the Davis School Garden Program. Come out and celebrate summer with good eats for a good cause.
Superheroes 5K
Capitol Park, Sacramento (Capitol Ave & 15th St)
Sunday, June 16, 8am
Your typical 5K run with a twist – dress up like a superhero! It seems very fitting this race takes place on Father’s Day, and by participating you will benefit many local charities focused on helping fathers and children. This is a great chance to exercise in the early morning hours before the Sacramento sun beats down, and there are awards for both timed runs and unmatchable superhero getups.
Rocklin Brewfest
Saturday, June 8, 1pm-5pm
Johnson-Springview Park, Rocklin
Come over to Rocklin to sample over 25 craft breweries. Food is also available for purchase and live music will be playing. This beer festival is in its 5th year and is sponsored by the South Placer Rotary Club. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. A designated driver may be reserved for an additional $5.
Elk Grove Chili Festival
Saturday, June 8, 10am-6pm
2nd Ave & Derr St, Old Town Elk Grove
Going into its 6th year, the Elk Grove Chili Festival has become tradition with its great selection of food and entertainment. This year, come view the Old Town Chalk Walk and put your kids on the brand new Super Slide attraction. Children will also enjoy a train ride, game truck, puppet show and various costumed characters to snap photos with. Parents will enjoy an art exhibition, beer garden, live music and raffle prizes.
Giggle & Riot Photo Booth Extravaganza
Saturday, June 8, 6:30pm
919 20th St, Sacramento
As part of Second Saturday, this free photo booth extravaganza features complimentary snapshots with plenty of funny props and costumes available to enhance the insanity. Enjoy the rest of Second Saturday after receiving your free photo, and make some fun summer memories downtown.
Pops in the Park: Mercy Me
Saturday, June 8, 6pm
Glenn Hall Park, Sacramento
Get down with Sacramento’s own dance party band, Mercy Me. Their blend of R&B funk and contemporary jazz music will keep you grooving all night long under the sunset. This event is free to attend, and is one of many summer events hosted by Pops in the Park, brought to East Sacramento by Councilman Steve Cohn.
Cupcake Ball: Father Daughter Dance
Saturday, June 15, 6pm-8pm
Sacramento Children’s Museum, Rancho Cordova
In honor of Father’s Day weekend, the Sacramento Children’s Museum is holding their second annual Cupcake Ball. Dads can take their little cupcakes on a special date night, with tickets ranging from $20-30. Princess clothes are encouraged for the little girls, and I suppose the dads too, should they feel so inclined. Space is limited so reserve your spot via their website.
Firehouse Restaurant Magnum Party
Saturday, June 22, 7pm-10pm
Firehouse Restaurant, Old Sacramento
The Magnum Party is a BYOW gathering (bring a favorite magnum bottle per couple) and socialize with winemakers, master sommeliers and those who are just plain wild about wine. Food and live music is provided, and reservations are required. This isn’t a frugal evening – tickets are $125 per person, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime gathering for any wine lover.
