How to Check my Michigan Driver's License Status
Instructions
1Visit the Michigan Department of State website. You will find a plethora of Michigan resident-related information, including instructions on how to obtain a copy of your Michigan driving record. On the left-hand side of the page, look for the "Driver's License & State ID" link, which is the first in the list. Click the link to proceed.
2
Use the "Quick Find" feature. The page that will load has a caption "Quick Find" at the top of the screen. Below that phrase is another that reads "How Do I ..." Using the drop-down menu to the right, find the "Get a Driving or Vehicle Record" link, roughly in the middle of the menu selections, and click the green circle with the word "Go" in it.
3
Familiarize yourself with the record request procedure. On this page, entitled "Requesting a Driving or Vehicle Record," is a detailed description of what a Michigan resident has to do in order to receive a copy of his driving record. Included in the information is the physical address where requests can be made (if doing so in-person, rather than by mail), the $7 record request fee and by when that fee must be paid. Notice the section "Related Content" at the end of the information; click the "Requesting Your Own Driving or Vehicle Record" link.
4
Download the record request form. Here, you will see the mailing address to which you will send your completed form, or the fax number to which it can be sent, provided you have an account with the Department of State, or, pay by credit or debit card. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the last link entitled "Record Request Form: Your Own Driving/Vehicle Record (BDVR-153)." By clicking this link, the form will be downloaded to your computer.
5
Fill out request form. Read the instructions at the top of the form, then begin to fill it out. You should be able to enter the information onto the form using your computer, but if not, fill out with a blue or black ink pen after printing.
6
Mail form to SOS. Once finished, place the completed form in an envelope along with the $7 fee, and mail to Michigan Department of State, Record Lookup Unit, 7064 Crowner Drive, Lansing, MI 48918-1502. Or, if faxing, fax to 517-322-1181.
