    Window Treatments

    • 1). Hang draperies that completely cover the windows near your leather furniture. Keep the windows and curtains completely closed during the day.

    • 2). Use decorative shades to block sunlight from shining on your leather furniture. Keep the shades lowered during the day, and then raise them out of sight at night.

    • 3). Use tinted window film if you do not like having your windows covered during the day. Peel the window tint film from the backing, and place it on the window glass to prevent UV rays from coming through the window.

    Moving

    • 1). Move your leather furniture away from windows and doors that will not be covered to prevent the sun from fading and drying your furniture out.

    • 2). Move your leather furniture away from other sources of heat that will crack it such as a wall furnace or fireplace.

    • 3). Rotate the position of your leather furniture on a regular basis to keep it from too much sun exposure when you cannot move it away from the windows.

    Cleaning and Conditioning

    • 1). Clean your leather furniture every six to 12 months with a leather cleaner and protectant that will give its surface some protection from the sun. Test a small section of leather first with the cleaner and protectant to ensure that it does not fade or otherwise damage the leather.

    • 2). Also condition your leather furniture every six to 12 months to prevent it from drying and cracking if there is sunlight present in the room.

    • 3). Wipe up spills immediately with a damp sponge, as heat from sunlight can set stains, making them more difficult to remove. Let the cleaned area air dry.
