Social skills are very important, even for you kids, in order for you to get along with other children. They can be learned and improved as it brings better self-esteem. Here are the basic and essential social skills that you must develop and improve.

It is important that you learn the basic skills when interacting. During conversation, you should always make eye contact to the child that you are talking to. It is also nice when you smile when you are greeting and talking to your friends or acquaintances. They will find you pleasant. You must be confident in your posture and the way you speak. You should be polite like saying please, thank you and goodbye.

You should also have the skills during the conversation. You should take turns when talking. There's a time that you should do the talking but afterwards, you should listen to what the other child is talking about. You should be able to talk even the smallest important things so that your conversation would be fun and interesting. You can show that you are listening by nodding and smiling. Putting humor into the conversation would make it more enjoyable.

It is important that you know to build and maintain friendship. Building friendship can be done by simply approaching the person. Sharing your ideas and toys is one way of acquiring new friends. You should show to your friend that you appreciate him or her. You can express your thoughtfulness by greeting him or her during special occasions and by giving even simple gifts.

Showing empathy is essential. You should be able to understand what your friend is feeling at the moment. You should avoid speaking words that can hurt your friend's feelings. If he or she is not feeling well, you can help by giving him fruits and try to understand that he or she can't play with you at the present time.

Conflict cannot be disregarded in any relationship. Saying sorry when you have done wrong is very important in order to maintain your friendship. You can deal with the conflict calmly and easily by being humble. Try to talk with your friend about the problem and express both of your feelings and concerns. By this way, both of you can get your message across and you learn to value how precious your friendship is. These social skills can help you in gaining more friends and learning how to value them.
