How to Fight a Urinary Tract Infection
- 1). Take antibiotics until your supply is gone. While the symptoms of your urinary tract infection may disappear after a few days, the infection can still be present. Take all of your antibiotics to ensure the bacteria have been killed and your infection will not return.
- 2). Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and coffee. Alcohol and coffee can irritate the bladder, making your urinary tract infection much more uncomfortable. Drink as much water as you can to help flush your system and remove the bacteria from your urinary tract.
- 3). Take a pain reliever such as Tylenol or aspirin to help relieve any pain you experience when using the restroom.
- 4). Stay away from cigarette smoke and avoid smoking yourself while treating your infection. Cigarette smoke is known to irritate the bladder and can cause more discomfort during your recovery.
- 5). Avoid spicy foods that might irritate the inflamed tissues in your urinary tract when passing through your system.
