Cat Picture of the Week: Calypso

I adopted Calypso from a local rescue group in early February, 2010. She was on display at my neighborhood Petsmart, and she won my heart by her sweet ways. Had I known how crazy she was I might have thought twice, since it's been a very difficult integration with my older cat, but she is great fun and makes me laugh. The rescue said she was two years old, but my vet thinks she may be as young as one year old.

She's very tiny for an adult cat.

She has no medical problems. She plays very wildly and very roughly, and growls at her toys. She really wants to be friends and romp around with my older cat, and hopefully someday Coco will be ready to be friends with Calypso. Calypso is smart enough to train, but she's willful. She is fascinated with weird things like the sink stoppers in the bathroom and the little porcelain caps over the bolts holding the toilet to the floor. She's the first cat I've had with front claws, and she climbs everything!

Advice for living with a calico cat: You need a very good sense of humor, patience, and appreciation of a high spirited child. I now have a tortie and a calico - I must be insane! However, life is fun, and it's challenging to try to stay one step ahead of them (or even to keep up with them). © HOSTPat

Calypso is a lovely longhair dilute Calico Cat. Her story appeared in the Calico Cats Show & Tell collection. Pat has worked very hard to encourage Calypso and Coco to peacefully co-exist in the hopes they will one day be friends.
