How to Enjoy Summer in Rhode Island
- 1). Take in all the sights with a scenic cruise on picturesque Narragansett Bay. Spend some time in this popular beach town where you can enjoy swimming, surfing, snorkeling and sailing, or just relax in a comfortable beach chair and watch the waves of the ocean roll against the shore. Grab a snack from one of the many restaurants that span the area. Visit some of the cute shops along the Pier Market.
- 2). Hop on a ferry at Point Judith for a visit to Block Island. Here, you can rent a bike or moped to explore the island along the many hiking trails. Another option: Historic Westerly, an interesting community that features some of the most well known landmarks. Head for downtown Westerly where you can do some shopping. You'll find a variety of antiques here and also discover fascinating works by local artists.
- 3). Plan a visit to the charming village of Wickford. Take a stroll down beautiful tree-lined streets past some unique historic homes. Wander around the shops and galleries, then spend time relaxing at the dock and take in views of the boats going by. If you want to do something different, consider a nighttime kayak tour of Wickford Cove.
- 4). Hike or bike along the William C. O'Neill bike path. It's a paved course that starts at the historic Kingston train station and winds through some truly gorgeous countryside. You'll find unlimited opportunities for hiking, biking, kayaking and bird watching. You'll also discover some charming villages, towns and landmarks. Grab a bite to eat in Peace Dale, a historic town along the route.
- 5). Head for the Gilbert Stuart Museum where you can take a walk back in time and admire the artwork of this famous Colonial-era painter.
