Modern Day Aquariums Because of its dimensions, 150 gallon aquariums that are made of acrylic is much less difficult when attempting to customize a variety of shapes and designs.
This is something that is not efficiently done with glass.
In fact, acrylic revolutionized the capabilities and benefit of aquariums since its introduction in the 1970's.
Most of the new aquarium styles that are available today are made with acrylic.
Sustainability The next benefit is its strength, as acrylic will not likely break as easily as glass.
If you have worries regarding a glass tank breaking in the setting that you plan to keep it in because of heavy human traffic, then an acrylic aquarium may be a better option.
Weight It's true that acrylic fish tanks are lighter than glass fish tanks.
In more compact fish tanks, this is not much of an advantage compared to a bigger 150 gallon ones because once a tank is filled with water, the actual weight of the empty aquarium will become negligible.
If considering a 150 gallon aquarium tank shipped to you, however, acrylic tanks are generally more costly than glass tanks, but since significantly lighter, the final price will usually break even.
Special Plumbing Acrylic designed aquariums are much easier to cut or drill through for adding saltwater flow systems or other specialty water systems.
Toughened glass may not be safely drilled and thinner glass will need special drill bits or cutting tools.
Clarity Acrylic aquariums are generally more clearer display tanks because of the thinner material and due to its light refraction.
The view is a lot less distorted to the viewer than it is through glass.
Insulation The greater insulation components of acrylic means that it can hold on to heat better than a glass tank.
This is usually a positive thing for a tropical aquarium in the long run to keep electricity bills down.
