  The cordless grass trimmer is the newest addition to the family of cordless tools. The advantages of this tool include not having to drag an extension cord around the yard while trimming your grass and not breathing offensive fumes associated with gas powered trimmers. But there are also some disadvantages of the cordless grass trimmer that may affect your decision to buy one.
  
  

Battery operated

• Like all cordless tools, the grass trimmer is battery operated and, like all cordless tools, that means there is less power than the corded and gas powered trimmers. As a result, it may not be your trimmer of choice if have a big yard or have large areas of tall grass or heavy brush.
  
  

Limited running time

• As a cordless tool, the grass trimmer is powered by a battery and that battery needs to be charged every 20 to 40 minutes. Therefore, you are limited to the size of area you can trim on one charge. This makes the cordless trimmer ideally suited to homeowners with an average property. But if you have a large piece of property, or if you are a lawn care professional, this may not be an option for you.
  
  

Recharging a nuisance

• When you want to use a corded electric trimmer, you just plug it into an outlet and off you go. The gas-powered trimmer simply requires a tug on the cord and you are underway. The cordless grass trimmer, however, must be charged in order to work. If you forget to charge the trimmer or you don’t realize the charge is getting low, then you have to wait for at least an hour before you can do your trimming. Furthermore, if you charge it after you use it, the trimmer could lose its charge by the time you want to use it again in a week’s time.
  
  

String release problem

• The cordless grass trimmer comes with an automatic string release, but there is still some manual adjustment required and this operation can be awkward.
  
  

The weather issue

• Wet weather will definitely affect the use of the cordless trimmer. Even though they are cordless, they are powered by a battery and that means they are still electric. If you use your cordless trimmer in wet weather or when the grass is wet, water could get into the battery and cause the trimmer to short out, damaging your trimmer and possibly even causing injury by electrical shock.
