    Scooter Classification

    • As of January 2010, the Burgman 650 was the most powerful motor scooter available in the US. At 593 pounds and 89" long, and with a top highway speed of 70 mph, the size and power of the Burgman is enough to surprise those who immediately picture a Vespa when they hear the word "scooter." But with an automatic transmission, step-through design and excellent gas mileage (38 mpg), it is a scooter.

    Engine

    • The Burgman 650 features a 638 cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled engine, an electric starting system and a maintenance-free battery. Additional engine features include a dual gear-driven counter-shaft system, liquid-cooled engine system with fan backup and stainless-steel exhaust system. The electronic fuel injection system and electronically-controlled pulsed-air injection system (PAIR) reduce emissions, making the Burgman a green alternative. The engine is fueled by a 4-gallon tank located in the rear of the bike.

    Chassis

    • The Burgman 650 chassis features a swing arm-style rear suspension with twin shock absorbers, a high-tensile steel frame and a telescopic front fork. Front and rear disc brakes (with a twin-piston caliper in the back and a four-piston caliper in the front) provide excellent braking power. The brake system includes a lever-operated parking brake system in the rear to prevent rolling. Dual multi-reflector headlights, flush-mounted front turn signals, and a large combination taillight/brake light offer visibility and style. The five-spoke aluminum wheels come standard with radial tires (a 120/70-R15 tire in the front and a 160/70-R14 tire in the rear).

    Styling

    • The Burgman 650 features a standard step-up double seat with an adjustable driver's backrest, a full instrument panel and an LCD clock. Storage is ample: the seat lifts to reveal a storage compartment large enough for two full-face helmets plus extra gear and the dash features a glove box with a DC electrical outlet and two smaller compartments. Suzuki changes the standard colors each manufacturing year, usually offering two options at a time. Past colors have included silver, white, gold, black, gray and red. The Burgman 650 is also available in the Executive Series. This series adds anti-lock brakes (ABS) and an extended, power windshield (for about $1,100 more.) The Executive is offered in a special color.

    Customization Options

    • Several additions are available to upgrade a Burgman 650. The most common are trunk cases and extended windshields. Custom seats in leather, plastic, nylon and other materials often contain additional padding for a softer ride and add personalized style to the bike. A sound system can be added with weather-proof speakers, an amp and an MP3 player.
