Allow Remote Desktop Through Graphical User Interface

• 1). Go to the "Start" button, click and go to the Control Panel. Go to the icon that says "System." If you are having trouble seeing an icon, look at the top left of the screen. Look for "File." Underneath "File" should be text "Back" or a left-facing arrow.
  
  
• 2). Look to the right until you find an icon that looks like a screen, or it may say "Views." Click on this and go down to "Details." Click on this, and your options menu should now look like a simple list in alphabetical order.
  
  
• 3). Find "System" and click on it. Another way of doing this is "Start Menu">"Computer Icon">"Right Click" the mouse >"Properties."
  
  
• 4). Look at the top right of this page and you will see "Remote." Click on it. Choose the button of either "Allow connections from computer running any version of Remote Desktop" or "Allow connections only from computer running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication." If you are familiar with your system and know that you are using Windows Vista RD clients to begin the Remote Desktop session, click the second option. If you are not sure, not clear on what this means or not using a Vista operating system (older computers may be using Windows XP), click on the first option.
  
  
• 5). Click on "Select Remote Users." You may have a list of possible users that can be granted access to the computer. These would be on the corporate network. If so, just click on them and click "Add." If you don't have a list, you will have to input either their "Object Type" or "Location." If you don't know either, you could click "Advanced"> "Find Now," and you will get a list of Names and Folders available. Add as many users as you need. Click "OK" two times so settings are saved.
  
  
• 6). Close these menus. Go to "Start Menu">"Control Panel">"Security Center." Go to "Manage Security Settings For," and click "Windows Firewall." Check that "Don't Allow Exceptions" is off.
  
  
• 7). Click the "Exceptions" tab and check that "Remote Desktop" is checked. Click "OK" and exit these menus. You have now enabled Remote Access to your computer. The person at the other computer who wishes to connect to you must know your computer name which is found by "Control Panel">"Performance and Maintenance">"System">"Computer Name" tab.
