Ross Scarantino, 64, of Duryea, Pennsylvania.

Accepting a bribe as a public official.

The Case:

Former Superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, Scarantino accepted 5,000 in cash in connection with support he provided to a contractor in obtaining a contract with the school district.

The Conviction:

Scarantino pleaded guilty in federal court.

The Sentence:

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas I.

Vanaskie sentenced Scarantino to 13 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $15,000 fine.
