    • 1). Check to see if there is adequate fuel in the tank if the scooter will not start. Check the spark plug for carbon deposits or corrosion. Lift off the spark plug cap and use the wrench to remove the plug. Clean the plug with a soft wire brush. Insert the plug into the cap and hold the metal part of the plug against the cylinder head. Engage the starter with the key. If the spark is a strong, blue color, then the plug is good. Replace the plug if the insulation is cracked or the spark is weak.

    • 2). Clean the air filter if the engine is sluggish or hard to start. Place the scooter on the center stand. Unscrew and remove the left-side panel. Remove the screws to the air filter cover. Remove the air cleaner and wash it gently with soap and water. Squeeze out any excess soap and dry the air cleaner thoroughly. Rub a little oil on the surface of the air cleaner. Squeeze out the excess oil until the cleaner is damp. Reinstall the cleaner, cover and left side panel.

    • 3). Replace the engine oil after every 1,500 miles. Allow the engine to warm for a few minutes. Turn off the engine. Prop the scooter on the center stand. Position a pan beneath the engine and remove the dipstick. Remove the drain plug and allow the old oil to fully drain from the engine. Replace the drain plug. Use a 5W50 oil to fill the engine and replace the dipstick. Check to see that the oil is within the two notches at the end of the dipstick. Check for leaks while the engine is running. If a leak is found, stop the engine and determine the location of the leak.

    • 4). Verify that the tires are correctly inflated if the scooter is low on power. Check the tires when cold. The front tire pressure should read 28psi; the rear tire should be 34psi. Do not over-inflate the tires, as this can cause handling problems.

    • 5). Check the brake fluid if the brakes feel soft or spongy. Apply the brakes to determine whether brake fluid is leaking from the brake lines or master cylinder.
