Apply A Garage Floor Sealer To Protect Your Investment

I want to share something with you today.
This is something that I experienced which I do not want you to experience at all.
I had to suffer the burden of a very big expense this winter in my garage and the sad thing about this is I could have avoided it if I had made an effort to complete a simple weekend project.
I failed to give my garage floor protection and now I am paying the price.
What exactly happened is that my floor was never protected with a sealant.
Over time a crack developed right in the middle of the flooring which is not surprising since the floor continues to cure after it seems set up.
The curing process actually happens because of a chemical reaction and not because of drying so it may take several years before it reaches its maximum hardness.
I had plans for installing a garage floor treatment but I never executed them so I just let the crack be exposed.
As it turns out, when I did some washing out of the garage with the hose last summer, water soaked right down through the opening of the crack and made its way under the flooring.
The water remained there until there was an unusual cold snap.
To shorten this long story, the water had frozen and buckled the flooring.
I had to hire a contractor to check it out and the only solution was to tear up a big section of the floor using jack hammers and to re-pour the concrete.
You have to believe me that I should have applied a garage floor sealer before this happened but unfortunately I didn't.
But I went with an epoxy sealer on the new concrete this time since I do not want to have that same headache again.
The great thing is, it's not really all that expensive at all.
I spent a few hundred bucks for the epoxy based paint and a weekend to work.
In fact, I didn't need a full weekend for this.
I cleaned the floor area the during the Saturday morning then I had a tee time in the afternoon while I waited for it to dry.
Next, on Sunday, I rolled the epoxy out and we spent the whole afternoon at my mother-in-law's (I would have preferred to do more work!) But it wasn't a total waste.
She does make a mean meatloaf.
