A glass of warm milk an hour before you sleep does it.
Sure, this might be an old wives' tale but it has been known for a fact that milk has essential amino acids that trigger the body to relax and fall asleep.
Lose the late night caffeine.
This includes coffee and soda.
Drinking caffeinated drinks can cause a lot of problems to people especially with their sleep.
By losing the late night drinking habit, you begin to regain your sleeping habits back.
Have a nice relaxing warm bath before you go to bed.
The warm water will help you relax your muscles and clear your mind.
You can even toss a few drops of essential oils to help you fall asleep.
Get a massage while in bed.
If you have your partner, it is best that you let your partner give you that wonderful massage and doze off while you are at it.
Massages relaxes the body and obviously, it feels good.
As you get into bed and go to sleep, you begin to see that the curtains are not down then you fix it and another thing catches your attention.
This will go on for hours up until you have fixed everything.
The lesson in this? Clear all distractions.
If you are not living in the country or if your neighborhood is full of college students partying every weekend, try to drown out the sounds by turning the radio on and play any soft music and close all windows.
Choose the right mattress.
Some people sleep well with soft mattresses that hug their body.
For some, they tend to fall asleep a lot faster with firm ones.
It all depends on your choice so choose which mattress you are comfortable with.
