How to Use the Four-Wheel Drive on a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder

    Manual Transmission

    • 1). Move the transfer lever from "2H" to "4H" or vice versa while driving any speed up to 50 mph. You should drive straight when switching the transfer case. You do not need to press in on the clutch. The transfer lever is located on the floor to the left of the shifter.

    • 2). Stop the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder if you want to switch the transfer case from any position to "4L."

    • 3). Press in on the clutch, press down on the transfer lever and move the lever to the "4L" position with a quick, smooth motion. Do not attempt to switch to the "4L" position while driving the vehicle.

    • 4). Repeat Step 3 to switch the transfer case from "4L" to any other position.

    Automatic Transmission

    • 1). Drive up to 50 mph in a straight line and move the transfer lever from "2H" to "4H," or vice versa. The transfer lever is located on the floor to the right of the driver and to the left of the shift lever.

    • 2). Stop the vehicle to switch the transfer case from any position to the "4L" position.

    • 3). Move the transfer lever to the "N" position, then press down on the lever and move it to the "4L" position. The "N" position is for neutral, when none of the wheels are engaged.

    • 4). Repeat Step 3 to switch the transfer case from the "4L" position to any other position.
