- 1). Select any one of the free website offers listed on a search engine under "free websites." Check the "Pricing" tab to find out exactly what features and benefits you get for free. Most of these sites offer "upgrade packages" that do cost money; you may want to migrate to this option later.
- 2). Register with the site you chose.
- 3). Choose a name for your website. Think long and hard about this part of your website. Choose a name that reflects the purpose of your website; be aware that many names are already taken. On free website creators' sites you will generally be given a URL (universal resource locator) similar to the following: www.mysite.theirsitename.com where "mysite" is the name you have chosen for your domain name and "theirsitename" is just that. This type of URL is known as a sub-domain and is perfectly legitimate and works just like any other URL.
- 4). Select from a variety of ready-made templates provided by the website. Make certain your choice reflects the image you want to convey to your target audience.
- 5). Flesh out your website with the website construction tool supplied by the website. These vary from one free site to another. However, they are essentially the same functionally. Select pictures and text boxes from image files and dialog files, and copy and paste or drag and drop them into the pages on your website. No HTML code expertise is required.
- 6). Upload your finished website to the internet by notifying the free website webmaster that you are ready to "go live!" by clicking on the "up load" button that might be labeled "Go Live!" or similar. You can now open your completed free website by typing your URL in the website locator window at the top of your Web browser.
