Fun & Adventure in Pittsburgh"s North Park
Allegheny County's largest lake is the jewel of 3,075-acre North Park, offering 75+ acres of fishing, boating, and swimming, ringed by over four miles of woodlands. North Park is also well known for its huge swimming pool, capable of holding 2 million gallons of water, plus its golf course, ice skating rink, 45+ miles of trails, an off-leash dog park, and the Latodami Nature Center. The lake was recently drained and renovated as part of a $21 million, 3-year project, and is fast becoming a popular Pittsburgh fishing spot.

North Park is located 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, straddling Hampton, McCandless and Pine townships.

The grounds at North Park are free and open to the public. Fees are charged for certain activities such as swimming, golf, and kayak and pedal boat rentals,
What to Expect:
Activities at North Park include boating and fishing in North Park lake, an 18-hole golf course (a driving range and par-3 course, too), a huge swimming pool (season passes available), 43+ miles of looped linked trails, tennis and basketball courts, batting cages, sports fields, and vintage picnic groves. There's a great old observation tower too, but it is closed to the public for safety purposes. During the winter, there is ice skating, sledding, cross country skiing and sleigh riding.

Don't miss the boat rentals from Kayak Pittsburgh, the Dr. J Freeride Trail and Freeride Skills Park, and the GoApe! Treetop Adventure Course.
The freeride area is free, but fees apply for boat rentals and the GoApe! course.
North Park Latodami Nature Center:
North Park's Latodami Environmental Education Center offers a variety of programs, both on and off site, to explore and investigate the wide diversity of habitats and wildlife found in North Park and other areas of northern Allegheny County. Covering 250 acres of North Park, the center includes field, forest, pond, wetland, and stream habitats, criss-crossed with marked nature trails for easy exploration. Don't miss the bluebird/tree swallow trails, the outdoor honeybee hive and indoor observation hive, four wetland sites, butterfly/hummingbird gardens, demonstration compost site, Barn Owl Barn, and the orienteering/compass course.
