Literally thousands of people have joined the ranks of paid internet writers. Before getting paid for writing online, some writers (myself included) were already acquainted with the writing and publishing industry. Prior to doing internet writing, for me, getting paid to write meant combing through pages and pages of the Writer's Market, looking for paying magazines. Today, tons of professional writers still rely heavily on that popular industry publication. However, the internet has made finding and keeping writing jobs a whole lot easier. Not only are more writing jobs available, but they are more accessible to writers. No more waiting for weeks, if not months, just to get a rejection about a writing opportunity. Thanks to the surge of online magazines, newsletters, pod casts and blogs, writers have plenty of available sources for getting paid to write. And the great thing is, you don't even have to leave home.

Writing at Home is Work

What images does staying home to write as your new source of income conjure up? Do you imagine yourself in a tilted back chair with your feet up, swigging on your third cup of java? That picture may not be too far from wrong. Writing at home is the type of work that allows you to have a flexible schedule. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't have a schedule at all. In fact, if you are interested in a career as an online writer you must learn that getting paid to write at home still requires work. Approach your writing this way, whether you get paid to write articles, blogs, or other online content. If you fail to devote the necessary time and energy to writing for pay, you won't be getting paid very much. This is true, even if you are already a good writer, but you have little or no experience writing articles online. Writing at home, in your pajamas or otherwise,is something you must take serious. That means performing regular activities such as making and keeping a good schedule and agenda. It also means creating a writing workspace that is conducive to a real work environment.

Creating Your Writing Workspace

When you create your writing workspace, you want to set things up in an area where you can be comfortable and undisturbed. These two points are completely subjective, so whatever works for YOU is what will work. For instance, you may be a writer that is totally comfortable working in a designated section of the family room. This is fine if you don't mind the television being on and the constant fighting over the remote control. One writer's chaos is another writer's inspiration. Me, however, I require a less chaotic atmosphere. I prefer it when I have a room all to myself and the workspace is reserved for no one else but me. But some new writers may not have space in their home to devote strictly for writing. If you have to share your workspace with others in the household, why not arrange to write earlier or later in the day. You may have to share the space, but you don't have to share the time. Explain to your family and household members that you will be writing during specific hours. Get them to respect the times that you need to be alone in your workspace so you can write.

Obviously, if you do happen to have a room or section in your home that you can set up as a workspace, this is great! This will enable you to really spread out and stretch your writing wings. Even if the room or area is small and confined, you can do things to keep you and your writing supplies in order. For instance, you can buy various plastic containers with lids to keep up with standard stationery and supplies. Wire or plastic desk caddies can hold all your pens, paper clips, post-its and other writing tools. Be sure to have copy paper and ink cartridges on hand also. Even though the computer is your primary tool of the trade, writers should never take print supplies for granted. Personally, I like to actually print out the helpful resource information I come across. I post the information on my walls and around my computer so that I have it handy when I need it. Posting information is a great way to perfect all the writing tips and strategies you learn from Finally Paid to Write.
